PGMER-2023 final-exam eligibility: the nine gates
The nine requirements every PG resident must clear before the final university examination, and how Methodder PG Logbook tracks each one from day one.

On this page
A PG resident can do three years of excellent clinical work and still be stopped at the door of the final university examination. The reason is usually not their training. It is a missing certificate, an unsubmitted thesis or a few months of logbook authentication that nobody noticed.
PGMER-2023 sets out the requirements a resident must meet before they can register for the final examination. In Methodder PG Logbook, these are tracked as nine gates. Every gate must be green before the resident can register.
The nine gates#
- Attendance. At least 80% attendance of working days, required to appear in the final examination.
- Research methodology. The mandatory online course in research methodology, completed in the first year.
- Ethics (GCP / GLP). A Good Clinical or Laboratory Practices course, completed and logged.
- BCLS and ACLS. Both certifications on file and currently valid.
- District Residency Programme. The three-month District Residency Programme, completed with satisfactory performance.
- Thesis submission. The thesis submitted to the university at least six months before the final examination.
- Research presentation or publication. At least one poster, podium presentation or first-author journal publication.
- Logbook authentication. The logbook updated weekly and authenticated every month by the guide.
- Final sign-off. Once all eight gates above are green, sign-off from the chief guide, HOD and Dean to finalise the completion certificate.
Some gates are done once, like the research methodology course. Others, like monthly authentication and attendance, build up over the whole residency. Those are the ones that cause last-minute surprises.
Eligibility that computes itself#
In Methodder PG Logbook, nobody fills in an eligibility checklist. Each gate is computed live from what the resident has already logged: daily entries, postings, certificates, thesis milestones and monthly authentications.
- Residents see their own progress from day one, for example "2 of 9 gates passed", with exactly what is missing under each red gate.
- Every failing gate has a "Fix this" link that takes the resident straight to the page where the missing record can be added.
- Guides, HODs and the Dean can open any resident's eligibility in a read-only staff view, filtered by batch.
- Monthly authentication shows which months are still unsigned, so a guide can catch up long before the exam.

No surprises in the final year#
When eligibility is visible from the first month, the final year is about the exam, not about chasing paperwork.
