A morning in clinical posting

From the rotation plan to ward attendance and a same-day logbook signature: how one clinical posting morning runs on Methodder LMS.

Morning Clinical Posting
On this page

Clinical postings are where MBBS students learn the most, and where record-keeping is hardest. Batches rotate through many departments, attendance is taken on wards rather than in halls, and logbook entries wait for a busy faculty member's signature, sometimes for weeks.

By the time a student's logbook is checked, the case it describes is long forgotten. Here is how one posting morning runs on Methodder LMS, from the rotation plan to the logbook signature.

The posting, step by step#

Planned: the rotation schedule. Every batch's posting is laid out by department and day. Gaps and clashes are flagged before they happen, not discovered on the ward. Each cell also shows that day's posting attendance, colour-coded at 75% and above, 60–74%, and below 60%.

9:30 AM: attendance on the ward. The posting faculty marks attendance for the batch. For wards and field visits, a GPS check-in confirms students are actually there.

During the posting: the student logs the case. A case presentation, procedure or bedside session is logged on the phone, with evidence, and mapped to the competency it covers.

Same day: faculty sign off on mobile. The faculty member approves the entry, rejects it or asks for a revision. They also record the student's level of performance: observed, assisted, supervised or independent. The student gets a notification either way.

Always: CBME compliance updates itself. Posting attendance and logbook progress roll into department and phase-wise reports. HODs can see which students are behind on which competencies without asking for the logbooks.

Signed while the case is still fresh#

The biggest change is timing. When a logbook entry is reviewed the same day, the faculty member remembers the case and the student learns from the feedback. Nobody has to chase signatures at the end of the term.
