A 9 AM lecture on Methodder LMS, minute by minute

One Microbiology lecture for 150 students, from QR attendance to an instant MCQ and feedback, with nothing left to compile after class.

A one-hour Microbiology lecture for 150 students looks simple on the timetable. In practice, it hides a register passed around the hall, slides on a pendrive, a quiz printed and graded by hand, and feedback forms that nobody tallies.

A typical medical college runs around 52 sessions like this every working day. Each one leaves a trail of paperwork, or no record at all.

Here is the same 9 AM lecture, run on Methodder LMS.

Before class#

The day before: prepare once, reuse every year. The faculty member uploads slides, PDFs or videos into the course, under the competency being taught (for example, MI 1.1). The lesson can also be built inside the LMS with flip cards, image galleries, a 3D book or an annotation canvas.

Each competency carries its NMC level, domain, and teaching and assessment method. Next year, the same lesson is already there, ready to reuse or improve.

8:55 AM: walk in and log in. The faculty member opens their account on the classroom system. Today's session is already on their timetable. There is no pendrive to plug in and no slides to email to the class representative.

During class#

9:00 AM: attendance in two minutes. A time-limited QR code appears on the screen, and students scan it from their phones. The college can also set the session to use GPS, selfie, biometric or manual attendance. Nobody passes a register around a hall of 150.

9:03 AM: teach from the course. The faculty member presents straight from the platform and annotates live on slides and images. Students follow on their phones and can take part in the session.

9:48 AM: a ten-question MCQ. A quick check is drawn from the tagged question bank. It is time-bound, submits automatically and is scored instantly. Nothing is printed, collected or graded by hand.

9:58 AM: feedback before they leave. Students get a notification to rate the session, and responses can be anonymous. There are no paper forms to hand out and tally.

After class: nothing left to compile#

By the time the faculty member leaves the hall, the session has already produced a complete record:

  • Attendance for every student, against the right class
  • MCQ results with pass/fail, averages and answer analysis, ready the moment the quiz closes
  • Feedback ratings for the session
  • Competency coverage, showing that MI 1.1 was taught and assessed for this batch
MCQ results the moment the quiz closes

Now multiply that by around 52 sessions a day. On paper, that is roughly 2,550 attendance ticks every working day, counted by hand before every exam. On Methodder LMS, each session leaves the same complete record without anyone typing it up.

Less paperwork, more teaching#

The faculty member taught the same lecture they always teach. The difference is that attendance, assessment, feedback and competency coverage were captured along the way, instead of being chased afterwards.
