Take attendance in a 250-seat lecture hall without a roll call
Ceiling PTZ cameras sweep the hall during class and an on-campus computer recognises students; only attendance results leave the room.
The challenge
Who feels it
- Principal
- Heads of department
- Faculty
Calling the roll for a large MBBS batch takes a big piece of every lecture, and paper sheets or shared QR codes invite proxy attendance.
Attendance taken once at the start also says nothing about who stayed for the class.
How it works with Methodder
- 1
Install for the room
Two pan-tilt-zoom cameras are typically mounted at the front of a 100-foot hall, with a compact computer inside the hall.
- 2
Sweep during class
At set intervals the cameras move between presets, covering their own front quadrant and then the far back quadrant across the hall.
- 3
Recognise on campus
The computer in the hall matches faces locally; video and face data never leave the campus.
- 4
Record against the class
Only recognised student IDs are sent to Methodder and recorded against the scheduled class in the LMS.
What changes
- Lecture time goes to teaching, not roll calls
- Attendance reflects the whole lecture, sweep by sweep
- No classroom video or face data in the cloud
- Attendance percentages update in the LMS automatically
